Ikat Obsession….Continued

Juuuust in case you thought my Ikat obsession was worth a mere one post…. I just HAD to go find me something to buy. No really I swear, it was physically impossible to keep working unless I satiated my Ikat shopping desires.

Confession: I got the romper and scarf…sigh.

ASOS:Metallic Aztec Wrapped Bangle / River Island Aztec Envelope Clutch / Soludos Ikat Printed Espadrilles / Pastel Ikkat Print Scarf / Reverse Cross Back Frill Playsuit In Ikat Print

But if wearing is not eanough (and I understand your struggle) then you can also have it around your home.

We can always rely on West Elm for the coolest home accessories… including cool and modern Ikat throw pillows (swoon)

How about this beautiful pattern for a baby nursery room? I bet this baby would grow up to be sooo cool.

Knowledge:

Ikat is an Indonesian language word which means to tie, bind or wind around and it refers to the ancient way that the fabric was constructed. It is one of the oldest forms of textile decoration.

The defining characteristic of ikat is the dyeing of patterns, by means of bindings, into the threads before cloth construction, the weaving of the fabric, takes place. Herein lies the difference between ikat and tie-dye. In tie-dye the fabric is woven first and the resist bindings are then applied to the fabric which is dyed.

Thank you, Wikipedia!

OK lovies, I hope you learned something today…Ikat is cool.

Crazy For Ikat

I’m currently obsession over ikat print. I can’t get enough!

Brass love

Remember that Etsy shop I wrote about on a previous post, The White Pepper? I was so excited about their wonderful thrift items, especially these.
Well…

Yes! I got them! They look so beautiful and I am so glad I went for it.

They look beautiful next to my flowers 🙂

Don’t you love them? They feel heavy, have the perfectly aged color tone and look absolutely stunning on that wooden table by the front door entrance. I hope you guys checked out the store because they have new items that are just as amazing…which reminds me I have to do a new Cool Shop Friday post soon. But until then…

Thrifty Nifty Shop

I couldn’t resist from returning to Flamingo Plaza this weekend. I have no idea why I went back…I didn’t really “have” to buy anything :/ BUT there were so many amazing little items I just had to have! So I followed my own tips from my Thrift Finds post, gave myself a budget of $35.00 (that was all the cash-back Walgreens would give me, hehe) and on my way I went to find more treasures.

Red White and Blue Thrift Store

While I was browsing it came to me…I’m going to make a new Etsy shop where I can sell these awesome thrift store items!! This way I will give people who don’t have access to a thrift store the opportunity to still own some vintage treasures AND I still get to shop…YEY!!!

However now that I was shopping for other people I suddenly became more “price conscious” (a.k.a: stingy :P) I started noticing that some items were really overpriced and honestly I even felt a little insulted. It was obvious to me whoever was pricing these items had no idea what they were doing.

So when picking out items I asked myself these questions:
– Am I getting a good deal?
– Is this item functional?
– Is this item of good quality?
– How does this item fit into today’s modern home?
– Would I buy this item for myself?

Sadly I had to leave some pretty awesome (although the more expensive ones) behind. There was a bronze birdhouse that was really old and actually functional that I had to leave behind and I was so bummed about it. I imagined this in an modern home on some design books next to some bright pink flowers on the sofa side table…ahhhh, dreamy. BUT, I figured I’d open shop with the less expensive items and if I had a positive response then I’ll step up my game for the next shopping trip 🙂

So, without further ado…here is the new Nifty Thrifty Shop and here are some of the items for sale:

Two Vintage Avon Ruby Red Glass Cape Cod Pattern Berry/dessert Bowls Dinnerware

White flower vases for eggs - perfect for easter

Vintage Milk Glass round vase (Wedding Milk Glass -Wedding Decor -Shabby and Chic -Pedestals)

Vintage real brass candelabra

Vintage silver-tone embossed jewelry box

Steel party tray with wooden handle, three compartment

I hope people like the items that I have picked out and that someone is able to bring some of these treasures into their home.

O.K…have a happy week, lovies…keep it cool till next weekend 😉

Thrift Finds

O.K. ya’ll, this past Saturday I headed on over to Flamingo Plaza, my usual thrift store stop. Here are some of some of the cool stuff I came across…

Shelves full of cool treasures that you can repaint and repurpose. I had a hard time not throwing everything into my basket.

This Christian Dior full length jackt was only $50 and was in amazing condition…but it wasn’t in my budget :/

I love shells (I love anything ocean) and I love shiny metals…so as you can imagine I had a hard time putting this down.

…and this little metal round beauty…I regret not getting it 😦

These cameras were so cool. I almost got one with the idea of spray painting it a bright bold color.

…and speaking of bright bold colors, look at this amazing print! I wish I could put it on the beautiful chairs below.

These were in great condition and there were two. If I had my own home I would’ve bought them and reupholstered them…maybe in chevron print :-/

Now, what I DID get was the following:

I plan to use these cups as vases for my flowers. The blue cups were 6 for $0.97 (weird price) and the two golden ones were originally from Pier 1 (sticker was still on). The cute little puppy I plan to repaint (pictures to come).

I also got a brand new pair of Mango jeans and J.Crew jeans. I scored a really cool red fancy shirt (pictures to come once I figure out how to style it) and this awesome sexy see through skirt (perfect for Miami pool parties)

…and finally this super cute double ring. I was lucky that it fit me since I have a very small ring size.

I can’t wait to post pictures of the puppy before and after.

OK, lovies…talk laters!

xoxo

Going thrifting this weekend and NO ONE can stop me!

Lately I’ve been doing a lot of research on my flowers. I’m looking to get inspiration from anywhere and one of the things I love doing most when I’m inspired is to go thrift store shopping. When your creative juices are flowing there is no telling what clever ideas you’ll come up with for re-purposing an old forgotten item that has been waiting on a shelf to be given new life.

Here are some examples of fun projects:

One of my favorite sources of ideas and tutorials is http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/ Here is their take on making one person’s junk into another person’s cool and funky decorations.

Before:

After:

But you’re not limited to funky decorations. You can also find and make purposeful home items. I always seem to find the ugliest paintings I’ve ever seen at thrift stores, but do not disregard these…look at the frames. If the frames have a pretty shape then you can always paint them and make a cool elegant chalkboard or pin board like this one:

And if you’re lucky to find some beautiful antique plates then you can always make a beautiful dessert or cupcake stand like this one that you will be sure to get plenty of compliments on at parties. Your guests will think you’re just sooo chic.

Tips for a successful thrift store run:

-Look for the detail, shapes, sturdiness of items

-Look past ugly colors

-Think of at least 2 other ways you can use an interesting item

-Buy only what you love

-Have a budget

I love having nature as the backdrop in my photography, like in this picture by The Cherry Blossom Girl. A couple of months ago I went to Ann Arbor, Michigan to visit my boyfriend. Ann Arbor is a hip college town and there were lots of cool authentic vintage stores. Here are a few of my favorite finds:
