Color lesson

I went to the mall this weekend and it only proved what I was suspecting…COLOR IS IN, people!!! So, this inspired me to do a little color research. Many thanks to the Krylon website for the info. I plan on having fun with color this spring season so I’ll be purchasing lots of spray paint 🙂

Here is some basic color info I’ve put together…I hope you learn and enjoy!

Have a wonderful weekend lovies.

Happy Wednesday

Beauty is all around us, open your eyes and open your heart.

Green With Envy

St. Patrick’s day s coming up and in honor of this day that turns everything from cookies to beer green I’d like to share are some beautiful GREEN arrangements.

Green is not really a color that jumps out at me as a common favorite color BUT green is all around us and it is vital in our lives…everything that is good for you is green! One of my favorites elements in an arrangement is moss and I am absolutely obsessed with succulents. But that will be another post.

Here are the flowers…

Don’t you just want to hug this last one? It reminds me of Dr. Seuss 😀

This weekend I will attempt to make a green arrangement. I already dyed some paper in different shades of green as well as some light yellowish green hues. I’m really excited to make this green arrangement since it’s not a common color to find in flowers. I post some pictures as soon as I have them.

The Family Chapters

So I don’t really plan on doing a lot of flowers at our wedding, for two reasons. One they are expensive when they are done nicely, and Two they aren’t very… To cut hundreds of flowers that you really only use for a day, maybe a week before they die seems so pointless. Just too much waste.  So I’m looking into alternative options for this. I’m not totally sure what I’m doing for my bridesmaids, but I’m thinking small potted succulents that they can then take home. I do think I will have one special bouquet made for myself, but thats about it. There are a million alternatives to boutonnieres that have nothing to do with flowers that I think I will try.

For our “decorative flowers” I have decided to do moss! That way we can keep them or give them away, and they will last for as long…

Thrift Finds

O.K. ya’ll, this past Saturday I headed on over to Flamingo Plaza, my usual thrift store stop. Here are some of some of the cool stuff I came across…

Shelves full of cool treasures that you can repaint and repurpose. I had a hard time not throwing everything into my basket.

This Christian Dior full length jackt was only $50 and was in amazing condition…but it wasn’t in my budget :/

I love shells (I love anything ocean) and I love shiny metals…so as you can imagine I had a hard time putting this down.

…and this little metal round beauty…I regret not getting it 😦

These cameras were so cool. I almost got one with the idea of spray painting it a bright bold color.

…and speaking of bright bold colors, look at this amazing print! I wish I could put it on the beautiful chairs below.

These were in great condition and there were two. If I had my own home I would’ve bought them and reupholstered them…maybe in chevron print :-/

Now, what I DID get was the following:

I plan to use these cups as vases for my flowers. The blue cups were 6 for $0.97 (weird price) and the two golden ones were originally from Pier 1 (sticker was still on). The cute little puppy I plan to repaint (pictures to come).

I also got a brand new pair of Mango jeans and J.Crew jeans. I scored a really cool red fancy shirt (pictures to come once I figure out how to style it) and this awesome sexy see through skirt (perfect for Miami pool parties)

…and finally this super cute double ring. I was lucky that it fit me since I have a very small ring size.

I can’t wait to post pictures of the puppy before and after.

OK, lovies…talk laters!

Colors, colors and more COLORS!!

I’ve been interested in making some brightly colored flowers rather than the soft light colored ones I started with. The opportunity finally arose when I got an order for bright bubblegum pink and light pink flowers for a Valentines Day party by amazing party planner Lilly Jimenez from I Heart Sugar Sugar.

Bubblegum Pink

I headed to Pearl with some ideas in mind but hoping something better would just jump out at me…I knew better ideas would come to me while I was in there (As an art school student, I love that place!!).

Mission Bubblegum Pink: COMPLETED

So, I bought about five different products that I thought might work and headed home for some experimenting. I poured equal amounts of water in 5 bowls and got working with a range of products that included food coloring, acrylic paint, airbrush ink and pen ink. I tried four of the five products and was able to get several shades of pink, including the bright pink I was looking for…not bad, right.

However I noticed that after I put the paper through it’s regular drying process the colors would always die down a bit. It’s frustrating because I really love the intensity of the colors while the paper is wet. I knew I had to keep searching for the perfect dye, the one that would give me deep, intense colors.

A couple of days later my creative lightbulb came on…ding!…I decided to use the tie-dye kit I got for Christmas to get a deep blue and if I added pinks then I would surely get some beautiful purples. Since I was already experimenting I also decided to try the one product I hadn’t used while attempting the pink…Rit Dye in powder form. Man, as soon as that powder hit the water I knew I had a winner. I had no idea how powerful Rit dye was! You can even dye plastic !!!! And just look at these beautiful colors I got…

Thank you Rit dye!

Wow, just look at that pink!!…and that deep blue purple!!

I ended up creating about 4 different blues and purples and about 2 pinks. But…(there’s always a but)…even though I did accomplish the intense colors I was looking for I realized they still lose some of that intensity when put through the usual drying process. This means my only option so far is to let the paper dry naturally. This is  inconvenient only because it takes up space and time…lots of time. However, I can’t wait to make some flowers with the new colors. I am crazy excited!

So, tomorrow I’m heading out to Pearl again and checking out what other colors they have available…YEY! As soon as I have some flowers in the new colors made I’ll be sure to post a picture.

Thank you Rit Dye!!

This Tuesday is my birthday so I decided to take the whole week off….YES, the whole week off from my 9-5 and instead work my 7-12AM…and YES, I’m excited!! This means I’ll be trying out new flower projects and posting all about it. Check out my other  flowers here.

By the way, check out how awesome the party from I Heart Sugar Sugar turned out…

Be sure to check out their Facebook page and contact them for any type of party…trust me that you will be so HAPPY HAPPY!!

OK, lovies…see ya laters, toodles!
